Distances and Times of Races

Majority of races are run between 400 to 650 meters. However the shortest distance can be 200 meters and the longest – 1000 meters.

Few races are raced over hurdles, with 4-8 obstacles for a race.

Times of previous races are the most important piece of information recorded on the racing form. At many tracks, previous race times are adjusted by an allowance, which is an assessment of how much quicker or slower than normal, the state of the track is allowing the dogs to run. As the times on the race cards already take the allowance into account for all greyhounds, there is no need to further mention this allowance.

Trials
Used to asses the abilities and record times of young greyhounds or greyhounds returning after a lay-off period.
